:__Garton & DNS @ LambsGo

Garton & DNS share turntables at Lambs Go Bar, from 9.30pm, Thursday 8 August. Just off Smith Street, Fitzroy near the KFC chip vent. Garton's first public appearance in Melbourne since October 2001.

Garton will play a series of new works interspersed with a selection of his favourite pressings. Included will be a sample of works from two forthcoming Secession releases, Lost Time Accident's "Frequency Ghost" and Future Eater's "GNOOB".

DNS is set to carve out a peculiar blend of foreign sounds, easing the evening into a combined substrata of low-end phonics from Garton's Lost Time Accident armoury.

:__TS Wireless audio launched

On 11 July 2002, Toy Satellite launched TS Wireless, a free wireless sound system in the Remy Lane/Queens Parade Precinct, Fitzroy North, Melbourne, Australia.

The launch hosted presentations by Spanish wireless expert and network privacy PhD candidate, Alberto Escudero-Pascual; TS Wireless Artistic Director, Andrew Garton (Toy Satellite); Tyson Clugg, Melbourne Wireless Treasurer; and via London, Adam Burns, free2air.org founder and patron).

Many guests brought laptops, connecting straight into TS Wireless with a choice of video and audio streams of the launch available for wireless users and Internet visitors. Streams were mirrored in Sweden and London.

Special thanks to Dennis McGregor, Justina Curtis, Adam Burns, Bruce Morrison and Alberto Escudero-Pascual for technical and project support.

:__The skies are alive with the sound of GPS

Today saw the first implementation of generative streams, live re-composing ambient sound pieces over TS Wireless.

Memory Effect is an emergent series of compositions derived from GPS coordinates and anecdotal sonic references to a sense of "place" and one's temporal relationship to scalable references marked out by GPS receivers and the satellites they receive data from.

Memory Effect is composed by Andrew Garton and produced in collaboration with Justina Curtis.

This project would not be possible without support from TAO/SSEYO Ltd, United Kingdom.

:__Ripped off or desperate for Secession in Java

Earlier this year Secession received an order for no less than 15 copies of releases 001, 004 and 005. We were astounded. Not just at the size of the order, but that it came from Bandung, West Java.

We filled the order, shipped it out and sent a friendly letter along with our precious CDs, of which we had produced only 100 of each release. No sooner had we returned from the Post Office that we were informed by our E-Commerce provider that the credit card used for this purchase was stolen and as such, their bank had retrieved the money that was on it's way to our own bank account.

It was a sizable loss of stock that I doubt any independent label can afford to lose, let alone give away... I consoled myself with the thought that who ever went to the trouble to order these obscure works had really wanted them and had wanted to distribute them where there was no means to copy a single CD...

:__TS/SR collaborations at VIDARTE 2002, Mexico

Two collaborative works produced by Toy Satellite and Secession have been chosen to be screened at the prestigious Festival Internacional de Video y Artes Electrónicas "VIDARTE 2002", Mexico City.

10 minute excerpts from the video/sound performance pieces Sinawe and Undercurrents will be screened between 27 August and 7 September. Sinawe was produced in collaboration with Kim Bounds (Raindog), Undercurrents with 2Loops and the Taiwan based, Eyedrink Collective.

Australian contributions to VIDARTE 2002 curated by Hillary Blackman on behalf of Experimenta.
