unfortunately i spent the first hour of last weeks exp doing the door thing, so i missed much of acoustonauts set. what i did hear seemed to be comprised of lush layers of resonant pads softening declarations from noam chomsky.
bags (aka. alan bamford) commented on acoustonaught's style... probably the most easy going "dj" he'd ever seen. acoustonaught would set up an mix and step into the audience and talk to his friends until it was ready to put on another track.
tim catlin delighted us for an hour with his guitar based soundscapes. an assortment of devices, such as a hand-held, battery operated fan with rubber bands, where the blades should be, were used to rub, jangle and vibrate the strings, setting off harmonics that were further enhanced by a fine selection of effects..
this week start at 9 and go all the way through to midnight!
we kick off with another promising set from bags, followed by a series of new works performed by ollie olsen and myself. we'll be using the very very new koan generative synthesiser, audiomulch, echoplex, pma5 and theremin. one piece will feature a moving piece from midnight mass in aleaiu, which i'd recorded in east timor on new years eve.
the following week, 26 may, warren burt performs live voice and electronics; soahab will give us a full hour of intense hip hop scratch mixing and jim knox will stir up a mix i'm told with go further than the 50s b-grade sci fi sound tracks he's known to collage up.
