___exp week 6
this is the final week of our first exp series at centriphugal. despite initial technical problems, the past 5 weeks has been exceptional with some remarkable highlights.
last week bags... mixed up a phil niblock inspired set, restrained, controlled and even handed in its delivery. nat rounded off the evening with a fine array of well managed tones and appropriate, tempered beats.
this week we feature Ross Bencina, creator of the outstanding audio processing software, AudioMulch. for those who attended the first evening, you may recall hearing the piece i performed with violinist, justina curtis. the violin was processed via an AudioMulch patch which included ring modulation, granulation, phase inversion and a healthy dose of delay.
we also will feature a live video recording, first time screened in australia, of the International Theremin Orchestra performing "Touchless" at the Minoritenkirche / Kunst Halle Krems, Austria. the performance was recorded april 4, 1998 and features:
gunter gessert: theremin, minimoog
andrew garton: theremin, stylaphone
pedro lopez: theremin, electroacoustic cordal, u-midi, tapes, radio
olga melanich: kovalsky-type theremin
sergio messina: fuzz thereminette
elisabeth schimana: vocals, echoplex
andrew smirnov: theremin with ring modulator
yuri spitsin: powerglove, sampler
all the participants brought together in the Minoritenkirche / Kunst Halle Krems, to develop the "Touchless" concept: the teremen-vox (theremin) as a universal controlling unit of an electronic working place.
the eight musicians performed at four autonomous workstations placed at difference locations in the nave of the church - which took the character of a large resonating mouth.
the piece is structured by virtual vowels with a fundamental of 116 Hz and the shifting attention from work station to work station based on a fibonacci time scale. the concert lasted for over an hour. the video runs for around 20 mins.
keep well,
andrew
